League: National Baseball Hall of Fame

History: The Big Hurt spent 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, playing for the Chicago White Sox for the first 16 of those seasons. Frank Thomas made his Major League debut in August 1990 and quickly established himself as both a power hitter and a reliable presence on base. In 1991 he won his first Silver Slugger Award and led the league in on-base percentage while also racking up 32 homers and 109 RBI. Two years later in 1993 Thomas joined Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, and Ted Williams as the only players to hit over .300, 20 homers, and more than 100 RBI, runs, and walks in three straight seasons. Batting .317 with 41 homers, 128 RBI, 106 runs, and 112 walks that season Thomas was unanimously voted American League MVP. He followed that up with another impressive season in the strike-shortened 1994 season to win a second consecutive MVP award. During his time with the White Sox Thomas won a total of four Silver Slugger awards and set several club records including holding the records for all-time runs score (1,327), doubles (447), and home runs (448), among others. After the White Sox won the World Series in 2005 without Thomas on the post-season roster due to injury, the club opted to release him. After leaving Chicago Thomas went on to play for the Oakland A’s, Toronto Blue Jays, and again for the A’s in 2008. He didn’t play during the 2009 season, but signed a one-day contract in 2010 with the Chicago White Sox and announced his retirement at a press conference. The team announced during the same press conference that his number 35 would be retired later that year. In 2014 Frank Thomas became a first ballot inductee to the Hall of Fame.
